Psychological Services

Virtual individual therapy and assessment services in Northern Ontario.

Northern Ontario Psychology provides virtual individual therapy and assessment services through secure, confidential online sessions. We proudly serve clients that are 18+ across Northern Ontario, including those in small towns and rural communities where in-person care may be limited or unavailable. One-hour Psychotherapy and Supportive Counselling sessions are $205. While we do not offer direct billing for extended health benefits, we do accept referrals through Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) and the Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) program.

Please note that we do not accept referrals through the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) or Health Claims for Auto Insurance (HCAI).

Psychotherapy

As a regulated act in Ontario, psychotherapy is a structured and evidence-based process provided by qualified professionals, who are licensed to practice under provincial legislation. Through psychotherapy, clients engage in a safe, confidential, and collaborative relationship aimed at improving emotional well-being, resolving psychological difficulties, and fostering lasting personal growth. We use established therapeutic modalities to tailor treatment to each client’s unique needs and goals. These include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for identifying and changing unhelpful thought patterns and behaviours; Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for working through trauma-related beliefs; Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) for deepening emotional awareness and healing relational wounds; and Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT) for building on personal strengths and envisioning practical, forward-looking change.

Supportive Counselling

Supportive counselling is a collaborative and compassionate approach that provides a safe space for individuals to explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Rooted in empathy and active listening, this form of therapy focuses on building trust, offering emotional support, and helping clients navigate life’s challenges—whether related to stress, grief, relationships, or periods of transition. It’s not about giving advice, but about walking alongside you, validating your experience, and helping you strengthen your own coping skills and resilience. Supportive counselling can be especially helpful during times when you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or simply in need of someone to talk to without judgment.

Psychological Assessment

Psychological assessments are comprehensive, evidence-based evaluations that help clarify emotional, behavioural, or mental health concerns and guide effective treatment planning. These assessments can provide valuable insight into challenges such as mood and anxiety disorders, trauma-related symptoms, personality functioning, and other clinical concerns that may impact daily life or relationships. Assessments are tailored to each individual’s needs and may involve clinical interviews, collateral interviews, historical records, standardized questionnaires, and detailed psychoanalysis. The process supports both clients and clinicians in understanding underlying issues, validating experiences, and determining the most appropriate course of care. Depending on the complexity of the referral question, the cost of a psychological assessment can range up to $3,500. We are happy to discuss your needs and provide a more specific estimate following consultation.

We do not offer intellectual or cognitive testing, psychoeducational assessments (e.g., for learning disabilities), or forensic assessments such as parenting capacity or legal evaluations.
